Introduction of Biotechnology

Enzyme catalyzed processes are fast replacing chemical processes due to low environmental impacts, better product quality and lower requirements of water, energy and chemicals. Enzymes have found several applications both in virgin fibre and secondary fibre processing including enzymatic pre-bleaching of vigin pulp, bio- refining, bio-deinking, pitch & stickies control etc. Besides Cellulases and Xylanases, host of other enzymes like Lipases, Esterases, Amylases, Proteases and Peroxidases have found use in Pulp and Paper Industry.

Recent years have seen a surge in demand for paper and paperboard for food packaging applications. Even though it is considered the most environmentally friendly option, paper and paperboard intended to come in food contact still requires to comply with FSSAI standard norms.
